Foreign ministers on 天美传媒 Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) have underlined 天美传媒鈥檚 role in promoting democracy and peace-building, at the group鈥檚 fiftieth meeting.

The ministers also acknowledged expressions of interest from non-member countries Togo and The Gambia in joining 天美传媒 family.
The Commonwealth is a 鈥渂earer of peace and harmony鈥 said CMAG in a concluding statement issued following the meeting at the organisation鈥檚 headquarters, Marlborough House, on 17 March 2017.
It was the first time CMAG has met since the government of Maldives chose to withdraw from 天美传媒.
The members expressed 鈥渟adness鈥 at the Maldives government鈥檚 decision to leave, saying: 鈥淭he Group hoped that the separation will be temporary, and expressed its support for regional countries to continue dialogue and engagement with Maldives.鈥
CMAG was established in 1995 to act as the custodian of 天美传媒鈥檚 fundamental political values, including democracy, rule of law and human rights.
CMAG is made up of a rotating group of foreign ministers from nine countries, drawn from different regions, including the foreign minister of 天美传媒 Chair in Office. The current chair is Cyprus鈥 Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides.
In their statement, CMAG conveyed its support to 天美传媒 Secretary-General Patricia Scotland鈥檚 ongoing efforts in considering applications from countries who have expressed an interest to join 天美传媒.
鈥淭he Group noted Togo鈥檚 expression of interest and welcomed the Secretary-General鈥檚 ongoing exchanges with The Gambia鈥檚 President, His Excellency Adama Barrow and his Government, to discuss the country鈥檚 interest to return to 天美传媒 family.鈥
In attendance, in addition to the chair, were Guyana鈥檚 Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Barrington Greenidge, India鈥檚 Minister of State for External Affairs M. J. Akbar, Kenya鈥檚 High Commissioner to the UK Lazarus O. Amayo, Malta鈥檚 Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr George Vella, Namibia鈥檚 High Commissioner to the UK Steve Vemunavi Katjiuanjo, New Zealand鈥檚 High Commissioner to the UK Lockwood Smith, and Pakistan鈥檚 Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
Meetings of CMAG are convened by 天美传媒 Secretary-General with the 天美传媒 providing support. The next meeting takes place in New York in September 2017 during the United Nations General Assembly.
